cold water that accommodate trout.  Below Tinemaha Reservior the water warms up and has decent numbers of Small Mouth.  Much of the section between Tinemaha and the riverís final destination at Owens Lake has just recently been re-watered so the aquatic life has yet to recover.  The lower Owens is somewhat channelized  so the banks are steep and wading is almost impossible until the flows are dropped in the winter.  This section is best accessed by boat and because no boat ramps exist so you have to be creative to launch one or hire a guide.  If you wish to do so, it is best to inquire with one of the fly shops in Bishop about where to launch.

The three mile special regs. or wild trout section just below the Pleasant Valley Dam has some of the best fishing on the lower Owens.  The fish are almost all wild Brown Trout and some can go quite large.  The river is very spring creek like with slow moving clear water and lots of weeds and aquatic life.  There is very little vegetation along the banks so stealth is important.  The lower Owens is open to fishing year round and can provide a quality fishing experience in the dead of winter.  Possession limits vary depending on the time of the year so it is best to log on to www.dfg.ca.gov to see the complete regulations.
